Virar ‘stabbing’: Girl confesses she spun a yarn to keep ‘relation’ under wraps

The girl’s father then approached the Virar police and a complaint of attempt to murder was registered against unidentified people, after which the police began inquiries, forming 12 teams to investigate the case.

“Inquires conducted among her friends led us to a young man who she had been in a relationship with for the past seven to eight months. We then spoke to the boy and he told us that a day before the attack, the girl had been with him, which was in direct contrast to her claim of having been proposed to by the supposed stalker. We then put the boy and girl in the same room, after which the girl confessed,” said an officer with the Virar police.

The girl allegedly told the police that her parents had found out about her relationship a couple of months ago, after which they had imposed heavy restrictions on her, setting her strict deadlines before which to return home.

“A day before the alleged attack, she had been with her boyfriend and had reached later than her given deadline. When her parents asked her the reason for the delay, she cooked up the story of being proposed to by a stalker. To further sell the lie, the girl hurt herself with a peeling knife the next day,” added the officer.

Superintendent of Police Sharda Raut of the Palghar police station confirmed that the girl had staged the attack and invented a false story.
