Daring the government to arrest Balasaheb Thackeray,Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said that the government had already experienced the consequences of arresting Balasaheb and should not repeat the mistake.
Uddhav was reacting to reports that a non-bailable arrest warrant had been issued by a court in Bihar after the senior Thackeray failed to appear in court in connection with a case filed by two lawyers against him over an article in party mouthpiece Saamna regarding Chhat Puja. Balasaheb is the executive editor of Saamna.
Udhhav, speaking at a function organised by the Shiv Sena at Rangsharada Auditorium in Bandra for selecting candidates for the ensuing state Assembly elections, said,The government has faced the consequences of arresting Balasaheb in 1969. They shouldnt dare to repeat the mistake again, Uddhav said.
Chhat puja, which is observed in Maharashtra on a large scale by people from states like UP and Bihar, had led to clashes in parts of the state in recent years, with political parties like Shiv Sena and MNS objecting to it saying the festival was becoming a political platform.
