Two persons were killed and three others sustained injuries after a minivan that was speeding in the wrong direction rammed them. The accident took place on the Station Road at Patel Chowk in Ghatkopar East at 7.30 pm on Friday.
According to the driver of the van,Kailash Manohar Gaikwad (42),he lost control over the vehicle that rammed three hawkers and two pedestrians before slipping into a sewer. A hawker,Lalita Jadhav (55) and a pedestrian who is yet to be identified lost their lives due to severe head injuries. Hawkers Sunil Ratnaparkhe (35),Daya Kharave (35) and 30-year-old Manoj Kanojia were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital with injuries. They were discharged on Saturday morning.
The policemen of the Patnanagar police station who were patrolling the area had intercepted the minivan. Gaikwad,who is reportedly an Air India employee,has been booked for rash and negligent driving,said the police.
