A 28-year-old accused of trespassing allegedly tricked guards saying he was going to dump garbage and escaped from Byculla Jail Monday morning.
Police said Surya David John (28) was caught in March by Mumbai Central Railway Protection Force for alleged trespass.
He was booked under sections 145 (B) (creating nuisance or committing an act of indecency or using abusive or obscene language),146 (obstructing railway servant) and 147 (trespass and refusal to desist from trespass) of Railways Act.
He was produced before a magistrate,who directed him to pay a fine of Rs 600 or serve one-month imprisonment.
He did not pay the fine and was sent to Byculla Jail. He had completed 20 days sentence. He is a drug addict living in the slums near Mumbai Central police station. Monday morning,he was told to sweep the entrance of the prison. Between 9.45 am and 10.15 am,after he finished sweeping,John told an officer he was going to dispose of garbage and escaped, said assistant inspector Nitin Potdar of Nagpada police station.
He said John had been now booked under IPC section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension).
