Maharashtra Wednesday announced the “Visit 100 schools” initiative under which government officers of Class 1 and 2 ranks will visit 100 schools in their respective areas and review their functioning.
The state ministers will also visit at least one school within their constituencies or nearby areas at the start of the academic year 2025-26, to welcome students after the summer break.
The initiative aims to connect leaders directly with schools to evaluate quality of education and encourage student engagement. The initiative also aims at improving enrolment in government schools.
A Government Resolution (GR) regarding the initiative was issued by the school education department.
The GR states that the initiative aligns with the state government’s goal of fostering a positive societal attitude towards education,
“Officials will provide guidance on making schools more attractive and accessible, ensuring that students, especially those in rural settings, are encouraged to attend and engage in their studies. The programme also encourages immediate action in case any critical issues are identified during visits, such as unsafe infrastructure or unsanitary conditions. Public representatives and officials are urged to report any concerns and recommend solutions to the appropriate authorities,” the GR said.
The government officers who will visit the schools are expected to provide guidance on aspects such as effective implementation of midday meal schemes for students’ nutrition, enhancing school infrastructure, and ensuring hygiene on the school premises by involving school management committees.
