Snooker kings crash out

The top two teams from 12 groups qualified for the knock out that will be hosted by the Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana from September 26.

Defending champions CCI ‘Snooker Kings’ crashed out of the competition at the conclusion of the league phase,in the fifth week of the BSAM World Zoroastrian Organisation Trust Mumbai Snooker League 2013.

‘Snooker Kings’,who were leading Group J with 11 points,were left helpless when Park Club ‘Samurais’ and NSCI ‘Wolverines’,who were on seven points,registered stunning bonus point wins in their concluding league ties to end up with 12 points each and qualify for the knock out.

While ‘Samurais’ beat Elphinstone Cricket Club ‘Diplomats’ home and away,Wolverines overcame MCF ‘Tough Men’ in similar fashion to end the group engagements in an exciting finish. In Group C,Khar Gymkhana ‘Challengers’ also snatched a crucial bonus point with home and away wins against MCF ‘Young Guns’ that saw them top the group with 14 points to qualify along with Elphinstone CC ‘Bappachibum’ who finished second with 11 points.

With Radio Club ‘Dickras’ close on their heels,Islam Gymkhana ‘Dabbangg’ also snatched a thrilling bonus point win over Mumbai Port Trust Reynolds ‘Rainbow’ to qualify from Group D along with table toppers Wodehouse Gymkhana ‘Woody Woodpeckers’,as both finished with 17 points.

Desperate for a bonus point win that would have seen them through at the expense of CCI ‘Rockets’,MbPT Reynolds ‘Titanic’ won their home tie but lost the away match to ‘Rockets’ who finished second on 14 points to qualify along with Group F toppers Bombay Gymkhana ‘Phantoms’.

The top two teams from 12 groups qualified for the knock out that will be hosted by the Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana from September 26. Of the 24 teams the top eight with the highest number of points earn a bye into the pre-quarter-finals,while the other 16 will contest to qualify for the pre-quarter-finals.

The final is slated for October 6.

PJ Hindu Gymkhana ‘Oceans Seven’,Bombay Gymkhana ‘Wizards’,Matunga Gymkhana ‘Gentlemen’,Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana ‘Matka Kings’,Wodehouse Gymkhana ‘Woody Woodpeckers’,Bombay Gymkhana ‘Phantoms’,Dadar Club ‘Stalwarts’ and Shivaji Park Gymkhana ‘Magicians’ earned a direct bye into the pre-quarter-finals by earning the highest points.
