About 12 central line trains were cancelled while others were late by up to 15 minutes on Monday morning after an electric locomotive on its way to the loco shed at Vidyavihar developed a snag and blocked the fast corridor of Central Railway for more than an hour. A CST-bound local from Khopoli and the Nagpur-Mumbai-Sewagram Express were stuck on the fast train line due to this.
We had to get down on the tracks at Vidyavihar and walk over to the slow train platform,as our train was stuck for a very long time, said Divya Doshi, who boarded the fast train at Ghatkopar.
Two electric locomotives were on their way to the Vidyavihar loco shed from Dadar on the fast line when the pantograph of one of them got entangled in the overhead equipment near Vidyavihar, stalling the engine. The technical glitch was reported at 11.25 am and about 25 employees were engaged in the repair work, suspending train traffic on both the up and down lines for more than an hour. Tower wagons with staff rushed to the spot and the line was restored for traffic by 12.20 pm. It was a minor issue and services returned to normal soon, a Central Railway spokesman said. During this period, the Central Railway diverted all train traffic on the fast line to the slow corridors between Mulund and Matunga.
