Six months after the H1N1 virus made comeback in the city, the total number of positive cases reported shot beyond 300 on Friday when six new cases were detected taking the toll to 305 this year.

The virus has already claimed the lives of a 19-year-old from Chembur and a 44-year-old from Navi Mumbai. While July saw 151 H1N1 cases being reported,92 cases were reported in August, with about a week more for the month to end. As per the civic body records, maximum cases have been reported from Vikhroli,Powai,Bandra and Andheri. Interestingly, more than 95 per cent of the 300 odd cases have been reported from non-slum regions.

Doctors have observed a transition in nature of the virus this year as compared to the deadly strain in the 2009. The H1N1 flu this time around became more of a seasonal flu.
