The Shree Shankara Hindu Mission (SHM),an organisation conceived by Shankaracharya of Kanchi Sri Jayendra Saraswati and started a decade ago by a group of senior citizens to assist the poor and terminally ill patients in city hospitals,will donate two portable X-ray machines and a full set of ENT equipment,costing nearly Rs 2.5 lakh,to the Somaiya Hospital and Research Centre on Thursday,in the presence of the seer.
Last year,they had set up in the same hospital a 10-bed ward for terminally ill patients and created a corpus of Rs 12 lakh till date for its maintenance. The SHM had earlier donated to the Lokmanya Tilak Hospital,Sion,a complete set of neo-natal equipment for newly born children,three ventilators for the ICU,wheelchairs and foetal monitoring equipment for its maternity ward. Recently,they have started giving medicines and oil to burn patients admitted in the hospital.
The Mission also helps cancer patients who are in need of dialysis or any other chronic ailments based on the recommendations of the deans of 12 city hospitals.
