Sharad Pawar slams PM Modi’s ‘foolish statement’ on Cong’s budget for Muslims
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lost his confidence and since he had nothing new to offer the electorate, he had to resort to making such statements to distract voters.

Addressing a press conference in Nashik, NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, over the latter’s comment where he accused the Congress of making a separate budget for Muslims.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lost his confidence and since he had nothing new to offer the electorate, he had to resort to making such statements to distract voters.
“Narendra Modi has nothing to offer now, which is why he is working on distracting the attention (of voters). All his current speeches do not hold even 1 per cent truth. One cannot run the country by thinking merely about castes and religion. He (Modi) has lost his confidence,” said Pawar.
The veteran politician slammed PM Modi over his statement where he made the accusation that the Congress will make a separate budget for Muslims. “This is a foolish statement. Budget does not belong to caste and religion. When it is presented in a Parliament, it belongs to the nation,” Pawar said.
A day after PM Modi’s roadshow in Mumbai, which came under criticism from the Opposition over the metro’s partial closure and use of roadblocks, Pawar said that holding a roadshow in Mumbai was not a sign of being wise. “The roadshow was held in an area dominated by Gujarati community. Why was the venue with a bigger road not chosen for the same,” he said.
Taking a dig at the jiretop controversy, where his former colleague Praful Patel presented the jiretop – a headgear worn by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj – to PM Modi and placed it on his head, Pawar said that one should not forget the history. “One could be obligated. But obligation should not be to the extent of using something which is associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” he said.
Pawar reminded PM Modi that the latter as Gujarat chief minister used to come to him for any issue related to agriculture when he was the union agriculture minister. “I had taken him to Israel to show him agriculture related experiments. He knows everything and his speeches these days are nothing but politics. He was then interested in the state’s development, now he is more interested in playing politics,” said Pawar.
