Shiv Sena MLC and former leader of opposition Ramdas Kadam presented a breach of privilege motion in the Upper House against Chief Minister Ashok Chavan saying he changed his stand on the disputed areas along Maharashtra-Karnataka border being declared a Union territory (UT) till the court gives its verdict.
Kadams breach of privilege motion will be admitted if the Chairman of the Legislative Council accepts it.
A resolution to declare the disputed region a UT was passed by the House. However, the same was not presented in Delhi before the PM. Therefore,I move this breach of privilege motion, said Kadam.
Kadam had said on Thursday that he would bring in such a motion against CM for presenting a different memorandum to the Prime Minister than the one passed by the Council. It was decided to raise a demand to put the region under Central rule or declare it a Union Territory until the Supreme Court verdict.
Chavan had said in the House that the 865 villages in Karnataka be declared as UT till the issue is settled in the Supreme Court. However, when he met the Prime Minister he is said to have made no mention of the the UT demand.
Instead,he had sought intervention of the Centre in the alleged human rights violation in Karnataka.
