Remaking History

IT is a film so iconic that 12 Angry Men (1957) has been remade in several languages since, including Hindi,as Ek Ruka Hua Faisla (1986) by filmmaker Basu Chatterji. Now,director Vivek Agnihotri has decided to adapt it for the big screen yet again. The film is a drama that shows 12 jury members arguing to establish the guilt or acquittal of the man under trial. As part of this ambitious plan,Agnihotri plans to rope in Amitabh Bachchan and Naseeruddin Shah among other stalwart Indian actors, such as Paresh Rawal and Boman Irani, apart from Annu Kapoor and Pankaj Kapur who were part of the earlier Indian adaptation. The director, who has made Chocolate and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal in the past, confirms his plans,stating,“12 Angry Men is an iconic film based on a teleplay and is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago.” While he confesses that he plans to make the film with these senior actors,he adds that they are yet to come on board. The film,he adds, will go on floors only by end of this year.

Nano for Leno

Popular American TV chat show host Jay Leno is also well known for having an exhaustive and impressive collection of automobiles. The newest addition to his fleet is Nano, the low (est)-cost Indian four-wheeler. To document the little car’s journey — from production to delivery at his garage, the TV host commissioned an “automobile mini-film”. The credits for the background score included former VJ,singer and occasional actor/anchor Sophie Choudry who has arranged the music for the mini-film. “It’s an honour to be a part of Jay Leno’s pet project and I’m glad that they used three of my songs for the film,” says Choudry. Apart from contributing to the music for the project,Choudry also dished out styling tips to Leno and got him to dress in a sherwani, courtesy ‘best friend’,Delhi-based designer Manav Gangwani. “I suggested their team that they get Jay out of his usual denims and put him in a sherwani for this episode. They loved the idea and later invited Manav Gangwani to design it,” says the singer-actor,who says she looks forward to hosting the “television star” on his trip to India next year. “He arranged an Indian dance troupe in Los Angeles to welcome the car but I’ll be giving him a grand Indian welcome,” says Choudry.
