The Mumbai central division has confirmed the availability of water coolers and taps at all stations. While the prescribed quantity of water coolers stands at 144, the Mumbai Central Division boasts of 194 operational water coolers within its division.
Meanwhile, a Western Railway official said the requirement for water tankers can reach up to 100, in addition to the drinking water supplied by BMC.
“We have requested the BMC to arrange for piped water supply at Dadar station as it is more reliable. Dadar station and the railway colonies collectively need 40 to 50 water tankers during the summer. Hence, we urge the BMC to prioritise providing tapped drinking water, starting with the station,” said an official.
The Mumbai division has also initiated a comprehensive and participatory programme called Sheetal Abhiyaan, focusing on ‘Station Heat Evaluation & Eradication Tasks and List.’ This initiative focuses on summer heat management plans.
