The Central Railway services collapsed twice on Tuesday leading to inconvenience for the commuters.

According to CR officials,a technical snag occurred in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSTM)-Madgaon Mandovi Express near Kurla station leading to disruption in service.

However, the passengers misery did not end there. A new rake introduced under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) phase I failed near Vikhroli leading to bunching of trains on the slow track of the CR.

“The wheels failed due to which the rake stopped functioning. It was later taken to the Kurla car shed,” said Shriniwas Mudgerikar, chief spokesperson,CR. “We have already taken up the issue with Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) which is executing the MUTP and Siemens that manufactures the rakes,” he added.

Rail officials pointed out that such failures not only affect the passengers but also earn railways a bad name.

It almost took three hours for a Dombivli-Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train to reach CST.
