A secret you discovered about Mumbai?
Indians in general and Mumbaikars in particular believe in destiny and rightly so. Everything that happens in this city happens for a reason. Everyone in Mumbai has a dream and it is up to the city to decide whether yours is going to come true.
An Indian product or service you cant do without?
A bit of Bollywood once in a while is absolutely essential. Bollywood films used to be almost the only foreign films aired in the Soviet Union during my parents younger years and my (early) childhood. Watching them now makes me feel connected to that time.
Any fashion tips?
Wearing flip-flops all year round is a dream-come-true. I am a huge fan of Western clothes made by talented Indian designers. Ranna Gills dresses are my favourite.
Dared to try street food?
I was first introduced to the deliciousness of street food by a group of local friends in Sion. Since then, even though I might not be willing to risk every street food stall,I definitely cannot do without a place like Elco.
A phrase youre bound to hear?
As you walk along Colaba Causeway, you are bombarded by a continuous chant of Yes,Maam? Next time I am there,I want to carry a sign saying No,Maam.
Your road experiences?
One day,I saw a man on a bike wearing a shower cap . It wasnt raining. I guess he used it instead of a helmet.
What is sexy about Mumbai?
Mumbais sleek and stylish bars and lounges, such as the recently opened Tote On The Turf.
Have you been conned yet?
I would argue it is relatively hard to con someone who grew up in Eastern Europe but no one is fully protected. Fingers crossed and I do need to work on my Hindi. That usually helps.
Truly,madly,deeply,Mumbai…
Indians and Russians are very much alikepassionate people with open souls,a bit mad by any Western standards but deeply caring about family, friends and personal relationships. The Indian spirit of entrepreneurship (which I am afraid Russians lack) is truly fascinating.
What are the similarities or differences between Mumbai and your hometown?
Sevastopol is located on the Black Sea coast of the Crimean peninsula, the southern-most point of Ukraine. Both the Arabian and Black Sea sunsets are similarly enchanting. The quality of water is sadly also quite similar.
Mumbai,the cultural capital?
There are definitely a variety of cultural events on offer here. Unfortunately, the city cannot compare to the other true cultural capitals of the world yet.
