Polytechnic teachers stage protest

Nearly 50 teachers of Airoli Shriram Polytechnic College staged a protest outside the Directorate of Technical Education office on Saturday.

Nearly 50 teachers of Airoli Shriram Polytechnic College staged a protest outside the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) office on Saturday, accusing the college management of not implementing the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. They gheraoed the officials there for almost two hours.

The teachers alleged that the college management had withheld the increment of 35 teachers for two years.

Professor Nitin Kapse, said,“Sixth Pay Commission is just one thing; the management has not even implemented the Fifth Pay Commission properly. They have stalled our increments. How do they expect us to work? If not for the students,we would have gone on strike.”

Professor P S Lokhande of MGM Engineering College,Navi Mumbai, who joined the protest, said they had written to the director many times but no action had been taken. “Director S K Mahajan had given us an appointment on Saturday but on reaching there,we were informed that he had left the office. His subordinates asked us to discuss the matter with them. We had no option but to stage a protest”.

The teachers said the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education had issued a notice to the college management, asking it to resolve the issue. Professor Kapse added,“The management is least bothered about us. Currently the teachers are getting less than half the amount they should be getting.”

Despite attempts to reach him, director Dr S K Mahajan was not available for comment.
