After finding a broken statue of Jesus Christ in Bandra’s Chapil road, Mumbai police immediately replaced the idol with a new one to ensure that religious sentiments of the local community is not hurt. Officials said the move was made to ensure that it doesn’t become a law and order issue.
According to police, they received a complaint on Monday morning at around 8 am regarding a statue of one and half feet size that was found detached from a private building.
“We did not want to hurt their religious sentiments, and so replaced it with a new piece. We are investigating the incident,” said Ramchandra Dhawle, senior police inspector, Bandra police.
Bandra police has registered a case against unknown persons on charges of hurting religious sentiments under IPC.
“My officers went along with some of the locals to buy a new statue. They together went to a religious market and even went to Mount Mary church before selecting the statue. We did not select it, we let them select it,” said Dhawle.
