Police officers investigating the suicide of 56-year-old Lalit Sheth, the owner of Raj Travels, are recording the statements of the family members. They said they will be questioning the family on several aspects, such as the alleged worsening finances of the business and Sheth’s debts.

The businessman had leapt to his death near the Worli stretch of the sea link on Wednesday afternoon. He had asked his driver to stop the car and instructed him to pick him from the end of the sea link as he had to make some urgent phone calls.

When there was no sign of Sheth, the driver called his son Aakash and informed him of the incident. A suicide note was also found in the car, which read: “I failed to fulfil my commitment. No one else is responsible. I am sorry.” His body was found around 4 pm near the Worli fort.

He added that they have also begun speaking to Sheth’s acquaintances to establish if he had shared anything with them that could throw light on the reasons behind the suicide.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Pravin Salunkhe said the officers would investigate several angles in the case.
