Pay-and-park facility on cards for CST

A systematic parking system with enhanced security features is on the cards for Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.

A systematic parking system with enhanced security features is on the cards for Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), with the Central Railway (CR) planning a pay-and-park system similar to ones at shopping malls. In addition to private cars, CR also plans to allow parking for taxis.

“The administration is working on the model with a private company, which already provides the facility at some malls,” said an officer.

The facility is being planned towards the P D’Mello Road gate at CST. “With the opening of the Eastern Freeway, there is a surge in the number of cars coming to CST. Presently, the parking is haphazard and security of the area too is a matter of concern.”

Mukesh Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager (CR), said, “A parking facility towards platform 18 at CST is under discussion. We are working on a single entry and exit scheme.”

Vehicles will be checked through the Under Vehicle Search System at the entry point and car details will be registered. The driver will be given a ticket, and parking charges will be paid before exiting the area. CR plans to charge as per municipal parking rates.
