NCP state president Jayant Patil. (File) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state chief Jayant Patil on Monday said that in the tripartite Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the party with highest number of MLAs will get the Chief Minister’s post in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters, Patil said that the NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) has an equation pre-decided about who will be the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
“The party with the highest number will have its Chief Minister. Though we work in an alliance, each party tries to grow and it is possible that few statements would be made while addressing the party programme. But MVA will remain together to ensure that we will work to ensure victory of maximum number of our candidates,” he said.
Patil added that the election results of Agriculture Produce Market Committees across the state are an indication that despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Eknath Shinde joining hands in Maharashtra, their alliance will not be able to able to bring government.
“The united Maha Vikas Aghadi has exposed the weakness of Maharashtra BJP and Ekanth Shinde… joining hands with the BJP with his 40 MLAs has made no difference. The committee poll results have shown that these two parties joining hands will not bring their state government,” said Patil.
Patil said that the victory of the MVA in APMCs shows that those active in the cooperative sector, especially from rural areas, are with the MVA.
“This government did nothing but announcements. It has shown no seriousness about the issues faced by farmers, agricultural labourers and people from rural areas. It is interested in organising events and bringing lakhs of people there. They do not bother if people die in those events,” said Patil, purportedly referring to an award function on April 16 when 14 people died of heatstroke.
