Around 100-150 hut settlements were gutted on late Wednesday night when a fire broke out in Shastri Nagar in Bandra. According to the disaster management cell of the BMC,the fire broke out at 2.45 am in a conjested slum area in Shastri Nagar. The intensity of the fire was grade II and 17 injured persons were taken to Bhabha Hospital.
All the patients brought in had suffered either suffocation or burn injuries. As many as 14 of them were treated on an OPD basis while three had to be admitted and are stable though under observation, said a medical officer at Bhabha Hospital.
After the disaster management cell received the call on the fire,ten fire brigade ambulances arrived at the spot. Fire fighting went on for almost four hours and the fire was finally extinguished at around 6 AM in the morning.
