The management of the Vibgyor High School in Goregaon (West) has filed a criminal complaint against social activist Dr Avisha Kulkarni, whose daughter was expelled from the school in 2010 for instigating a mob attack on it earlier this month. Kulkarni has, however, claimed that she has been framed.
The Goregaon police filed an FIR against Kulkarni after the school accused her of instigating an attack on its premises on August 7. The tiff between Kulkarni and the school began with protests against the 50 per cent fee hike enforced by the school in March 2008 and the expulsion of Kulkarnis daughter in 2010.
On August 7,a water tanker hit a woman near the school. The woman was rushed to hospital but a mob that gathered outside pelted stones at the school building and some barged into its premises and damaged a school bus.
The complaint said,After the accident,Kulkarni was successful in gathering a mob and they barged into the school premises. The mob then went to the parking lot and attacked a few school buses. They also attacked the security guard and bus driver, who were present at the school gate, before leaving the premises.
School principal Shim Mathew said,With the help of slumdwellers, she (Kulkarni) has been organising agitations against the school management, staff and parents. …this time she has put the safety of our students on the line, parents have repeatedly asked us to take action against her.
Kulkarni, however, said,Rustom Kerawalla, the trustee of the school, has lost as many as five cases against me,which includes the fee hike case, the charity commissioner matter about misappropriation of funds and also the case of my daughters expulsion in the SC. He is now trying to implicate me in a riot case even though I was not involved. I have sent a legal notice to the school.
