The Kalachowkie police have arrested a Nigerian who cheated a management student, also a budding entrepreneur, under the pretext of exporting Ayurvedic medicines to England. According to the police,Prashant Gangam,a business management student who was keen on starting a business, got to know of a British company on the Internet. He began chatting online with one John Richard who told him that they wanted to import Ayurvedic medicines from India and Gangam could help them in this. They also asked Gangam to buy the medicines from a company in Mumbai to get a commission for the export.

Around a month ago,Gangam was convinced of the business proposal and struck a deal. “ Richard told Gangam to get in touch with a woman in Mumbai who would supply the medicines to him. The woman told her that a courier boy would get the medicines,” said inspector S Awte from the Kalachowkie police station.

A few days after the deal was struck,a Nigerian identified as Solomon Moris Duke (31) came to Gangam with packets of a powder and asked Gangam to pay Rs 31 lakh for the “medicines”. “Gangam grew suspciuos and approached us. On Saturday, when Duke met Gangam at his kalachowkie office,we laid a trap and arrested him,” said Awte.

“ We have arrested Duke on charges of cheating and sections of the Information Technology Act. We are still tracing the woman who Gangam contacted and John Richard,” added Awte.
