Sunday saw a bunch of kids in the age group of 7-14 from Jogeshwari getting some early lessons on HIV and AIDS at the Jeevan Jyoti Ashram,a care centre for destitute men suffering from AIDS at Kharghar,Navi Mumbai. The event was organised by AGNI (Action for Good Governance and Networking in India).
The children were also made aware about the importance of safe sex through an interactive session with the members of AGNI and the AIDS home.
They were then allowed to interact with some of the patients who were admitted at the home, which has a capacity to house around 80 patients at a time. The Missionaries of Charity Brothers run the ashram since the past year which functions completely on donations. The children were also informed about the various medical facilities available for HIV patients.
AGNI is a non-political voluntary movement that networks various citizen groups. Since the past six years AGNI has been visiting AIDS home once a year.
The organisation also donated a lot of clothes and grains to the ashram, along with a monetary donation of over Rs 23,000 collected by the members who came for the event.
