New Destination

The India Resortwear Fashion Week shifts to Mumbai this December

It hosted its first edition two years ago in Goa and since then,a lot of things have changed for the India Resort Fashion Week, now christened Indian Resortwear Fashion Week (IRFW). The name change aside, this year — that marks the third year for the property — will see Bipasha Basu come on board as the face of the event. This year also signals a major shift in the venue; IRFW will be held in Mumbai.

Slated to take place from December 12 to 14,it will see fashion shows on the first two days. The third day marks another first: the India Glamour and Fashion Awards, that will felicitate talent across categories — from designers, retailers and celebrities to emerging companies, makeup artists, hair stylists and journalists.

Designer Rocky S,the creative director for the event, points out that Mumbai has always been in sync with the latest trends, which makes it the perfect destination for IRFW. Given that the previous editions of the event were met with staunch criticism from several quarters — most notably from Goa-based designer Wendell Rodricks, who argued that the event was hurting its environment and image — this move is an important development.

“Unlike the last two years, this year’s event is ‘By Invitation Only’. There will be a generous dose of Bollywood glamour as well,” says Rocky.
