Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to bring back wagh nakh, the wartime weapon of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The Wagh Nakh or tiger claws were used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to kill Afzal Khan, the General in the Bijapur Adil Shahi empire.
The tiger claws would be handed over to the Maharashtra government by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum on a loan basis for three years and would be displayed at the museums in the state, the Government
Resolution issued by the state government, earlier this week, stated.
On Sunday night, Mungantiwar had left for London from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after paying floral tribute to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the airport.
State Industries Minister Uday Samant was also present during the signing of the MoU.
Earlier Mungantiwar had announced that the state government has decided to bring back the tiger claws to India from London on the 350th anniversary of King Shivaji’s coronation celebration.
