Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kuntes speech at Thursdays BMC general body meeting may have provided much-needed balm to chief accountant Ram Dhas, under fire for alleging a corporator-contractor nexus at the ward level in an internal note made public, but it failed to impress councillors. After Kunte refused to accept the demand of corporators for resignation of Dhas,Yakub Memom of Samajwadi Party said: First you give us a wound and then soframycin to put on it!
Good,but bad
NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik recently complimented rival Prithviraj Chavan of Congress. The MMRDA member said he okayed the controversial proposal to increase the time cap for projects in Bandra-Kurla Complex from four to six years relying on the Chief Ministers clean image. Two days later,Chavan stayed the decision on Wednesday. Red-faced,Malik is now claiming he did not get time to read a copy of the agenda for the Monday meeting where the matter was discussed.
Once bitten,twice shy
BMC has gone into an overdrive after the death of celebrated Hindi film director Yash Chopra due to dengue. It has begun fogging film studious and home of actors.
Mannat, house of Shah Rukh Khan, who acted in many a Chopra film, was the first to be fumigated, followed by Prateeksha, the bungalow of megastar Amitabh Bachchan. The exercise, however, has not gone down well with many.
Why is BMC fogging studios and houses of actors? Will they fog our houses too? wondered ex-mayor Shubha Raul. A corporator said: Actors spend crores holidaying abroad. They should also spend a little money on buying fogging machines for film sets.
Athawales Big plan
Ramdas Athawale of RPI has made a career storming in and out of political alliances. This time, however,he has set his eyes on storming a new bastion. After an unsuccessful attempt in 2008 to enter the Big Boss house at Lonavla as a contestant,Athawale has now threatened to enter it by force. He wants cartoonist Aseem Trivedi evicted from the house for allegedly denigrating the Constitution and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
When the item was brought up,I gave my approval since the Chief Minister is known to be an honest person, he said and wondered how Chavan gave the go-ahead to the proposal whose financial implications were hidden on purpose.
