(Express Photo)A 32-year-old doctor from Sir J J Hospital in Mumbai allegedly jumped from the Sewri-Nhava Sea Link Atal Setu minutes after telling his mother on Monday night that he was coming home for dinner, the police in Navi Mumbai said on Tuesday, adding that they were still trying to trace him.
Dr Omkar Kavitake, who was a resident of Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai, was last seen at the bridge on Monday night by a motorist who informed the police control room of the incident, according to the police.
The police said Dr Kavitake had stopped his Honda Amaze car on the Navi Mumbai-Mumbai stretch of the sea link and crossed over the railing of the bridge.
When personnel from Navi Mumbai’s Ulwa police station reached the spot, they found the car and an iPhone in it. By calling some numbers on the phone, they could identify the vehicle’s owner as Dr Kavitake, who had worked at the Mumbai hospital for the past six years.
Dr Kavitake’s family was informed and a search for him was launched, the police added.
“When we checked the phone call details, we found that the doctor last called his mother at 9.11 pm on Monday and told her that he was soon coming home to have dinner…,” said Arjun Rajane, Senior Inspector of the Ulwa police station.
The police are speaking to the doctor’s family members, colleagues, and friends to find out why Dr Kavitake allegedly jumped from the sea bridge.
