Changing City: Work on Andheri East subway gains speed, expected to be ready by April 2024

After missing two deadlines, the Parsi Panchayat Andheri East Subway work is progressing with speed.

While the work was slowed down previously due to the Covid-19-induced lockdowns, there were also challenges in taking up the work at Western Express Highway (WEH) since the highway sees heavy traffic throughout the day and it was difficult to obtain permission.

Further, work on Metro Line 7 (Andheri E to Dahisar E) was ongoing then. Simultaneous subway construction work would have added to the traffic congestion in this scenario.

Now, the Metro work is complete on WEH, and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has begun to focus on the subway work. It is expected to be ready by April 2024.

Its completion could potentially resolve traffic woes of the area.
