A majority of Meru Cabs continued to be off roads for the third consecutive day,though the taxi firm claimed 97 per cent of the drivers were willing to resume work,but feared being attacked by their striking counterparts.
There have been a few incidents of stone pelting on Meru vehicles and forcibly making passengers alight over the past three days,a Meru spokesperson said. On the very first day of the strike,four Meru cars were attacked in Kandivali,Thane,Dahisar and Powai.
The company has requested the police to intervene in cases of violent threats to the Meru Cab drivers and the company, Chief Executive Rajiv Puri said in a statement. However,commuters continue to be held to ransom owing to this violent behaviour of protesters.
The business has suffered a loss of Rs 60 lakh due to damage to its vehicles and has lost revenue in crores due to the strike,the company said.
Nitesh Rane-led Swabhimaan Sanghatana had called the strike on October 19,demanding a cut in the amount Meru cab drivers pay the company per day and reinstatement of the 21 drivers suspended for causing damage to the company business when the drivers were on a strike earlier this month. Rane had called a strike on October 3 on five demands and the agitation lasted
nine days.
