Mega blocks will affect services on both the Central and Western railways on Sunday. The Western Railway (WR) has declared a jumbo block between Marine Lines and Mahim Junction for maintenance work of track,signalling and overhead equipment between 10.35 am and 3.35 pm while the Central Railway (CR) will operate a special traffic block for construction of a road overbridge at Kopri between Mulund and Thane between 1.35 am and 4.35 am.
Though traffic will not be suspended,many trains could be cancelled or delayed on both the railways. On CR,many mail and express trains will be 10 minutes-one hour and 40 minutes behind schedule. On WR,all Down local (slow line) trains will run on Dn through (fast line) between Marine Lines and Mahim Jn stations,and these trains will not halt at Mahalaxmi,Elphinstone Road and Matunga Road. Passengers will be allowed to travel in opposite direction for their destinations between Bandra and Mumbai Central stations. All 12-car slow trains will halt at Lower Parel and Mahim stations during the block. Some Up and Down local trains have been cancelled.
The suburban trains on CR that will be cancelled include T-2,T-4 & T-6 suburban trains leaving Thane at 03.58 am,04.12 am and 04.25 am for Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Besides,there will be a partial cancellation of up suburban trains between Thane and CST. The S-2 local train,leaving Karjat at 02.30 am,will run up to Thane only.
The BL-1 Badlapur local train,leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 04.55 am,will run from Thane; both the A-3 Ambarnath local,leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 05.07 am,and the A-5 Ambarnath local,leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 05.31 am,will run from Thane. A shadow block will be operated between Kurla-Sion/Chunabatti stations for removal of structure 14/3 for the same period.
Mail Express trains scheduled to arrive in Mumbai during the block period will be regulated at Thane,Kalyan,Diva and other stations en route and they will reach their destinations 10 min-1 hour and 40 min behind schedule. The 51028 Pandharpur-Mumbai Passenger and the 16382 Kanyakumari-Mumbai Express will be terminated at Dadar.
Rly managers visit WR headquarters
As many as 13 railway managers from Cambodia,Malaysia,Pakistan,Sri Lanka,Thailand,Vietnam and elsewhere from the country visited the Western Railway headquarters here on Saturday as part of a SAARC co-operation programme.
