At some locations, the agitation is being held peacefully while at some places it has taken a violent turn.” (Twitter/ ANI) The police in the state have registered 141 cases including seven FIRs for attempt to murder against those agitating for reservation for Maratha community, the Director General of Police said. Nearly 168 persons have been arrested so far while 146 others were served notices under Section 41A of the CrPC, he said.
Speaking to media persons, DGP Rajnish Seth said, “There is an agitation going on across Maharashtra seeking reservation for Maratha community. At some locations, the agitation is being held peacefully while at some places it has taken a violent turn.”
However, at locations where the agitators have chosen to damage public property, cases have been registered against them, said Seth.

At Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, also known as Aurangabad, 54 cases were registered and 106 protesters were arrested between October 29 and 31.
“In Beed, 20 cases have been registered, out of which seven cases are of attempt to murder,” Seth said.
Preventive steps have been taken while prohibitory orders have also been issued in Sambhaji Nagar rural, Beed and Jalna.
Internet services have been suspended at these locations, he said. “The police will take stringent action against law breakers and people damaging public property,” the DGP said. The police will, however, support those who want to agitate peacefully, he said.
Additional forces have also been assigned at different locations as 17 SRPF companies, Rapid Action Force and 7,000 home guard personnel have been deployed across the state to ensure that the law and order situation is under control.
Public property worth more than 12 crore have been damaged during the course of the agitation, he said.
