Man held for taking bribe from poll candidate

A cameraman working under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Returning Officer,Andheri,was arrested by the Mumbai Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a civic poll candidate.

A cameraman working under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Returning Officer,Andheri,was arrested by the Mumbai Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a civic poll candidate. The incident took place at Jogeshwari on Thursday.

ACB officers said the cameraman has been identified as Sayeed Rizvi. Rizvi had allegedly demanded the amount from a candidate after allegedly threatening her to cancel her nomination,for campaigning without requisite permission.

“The candidate is contesting for ward number 67 from Jogeshwari (East). On Thursday,the candidate and her husband had gone to pay a condolence visit to a family. There,Rizvi and another person identified as Shingne recorded the entire event. They later accused the candidate of campaigning without permission,” said an ACB officer.

“As soon as Rizvi accepted the bribe,of Rs 5,000,we nabbed him. We are probing the case further,” said the officer.
