Man gets 7-yr RI for forgery
A Sewri sessions court Wednesday sentenced a man to 7-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for duping a bank of Rs 9 lakh in 2003.
A Sewri sessions court Wednesday sentenced a man to 7-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for duping a bank of Rs 9 lakh in 2003. According to the public prosecutor,on March 21,2003,Sujeet Shetty approached the bank and said he wanted to apply for a housing loan for two flats he had purchased in the Mira- Bhayander area.
The court convicted Shetty for counterfeiting government stamp,forgery of valuable security,forgery for purpose of cheating,using as genuine a forged document or electronic record.
The prosecution said Shetty had sought loan of Rs 9 lakh and also presented two people as surety. The bank,on verifying the documents and on finding them to be genuine,disbursed the loan in the name of Sunrise Construction Company. Shetty assured the bank that the builder would be handed the cheque personally. After paying a few EMIs,Shetty stopped making payments and was declared a defaulter.
When the bank officials began an inquiry,they found the papers were forged. Shetty,who is facing similar charges in other cases registered in the city,was nabbed by officers of Dindoshi police station.
