The Tardeo police have filed charges against 28-year-old Shabaz Sayyed for allegedly stalking, harassing, and trying to coerce his former female manager into marriage. Sayyed, who is already married, is also accused of offering Rs 5 lakh to the woman and her mother to persuade them to agree to the marriage.

According to the police, Sayyed repeatedly proposed to the 32-year-old complainant, who works for a fast food chain, after she was transferred to a new location near Mumbai Central. Sayyed, who was previously employed as a delivery boy under the complainant’s supervision, continued to pursue her even after resigning and starting his own business.

On May 26, Sayyed proposed marriage to the complainant and later approached her family. The complainant rejected his proposal, explaining that she could not marry him due to religious differences. Sayyed responded by offering Rs 5 lakh to her and her mother in exchange for their consent.

Despite the rejection, Sayyed persistently followed the complainant to her workplace and home. On one occasion, he waited outside her building for over three hours on her birthday. His attempts to pressure her into marriage continued, including frequent visits and messages.

The situation escalated when Sayyed’s wife confronted the complainant at her workplace, revealing that Sayyed was already married. The complainant then showed the messages from Sayyed and informed his wife of his harassment and financial offers.

“They even trapped him on one occasion as the complainant called him near her workplace while his wife and her brother stayed at a little distance,” said an officer adding, “During the confrontation, the accused again told her that he wanted to marry her following which his wife and her brother intervened.”

The complainant subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to the registration of a case under the relevant section of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act. A senior police officer noted, “Sayyed was brought to the police station on the following day after the case was filed. In accordance with Supreme Court guidelines, we issued him a notice and allowed him to leave. We will call him in for further investigation as needed.”
