Man arrested for raping

Police arrested a 21-year-old man Friday from Shivaji Nagar for allegedly raping his neighbour’s minor daughter. The incident allegedly occurred eight days ago,but came to light Friday,when the seven-year-old victim confided in her family members.

“On Friday,the girl’s grandmother noticed that she had been unusually quiet and depressed for nearly a week. The grandmother asked her what the matter was. The girl broke down and told her that accused Imran Khan visited the house eight days ago when she was alone and forced himself on her. The girl’s family then approached us,” said an officer.

Police picked up Khan from his residence and placed him under arrest after questioning him. He has been charged for rape and criminal intimidation under the IPC as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,2012,police said.

“The victim underwent medical tests at Police Hospital in Nagpada. We are waiting for the reports,” said senior inspector Radheshyam Agarwal.
