A special court, which had directed BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur to appear before it ‘without fail’ from April 20 in connection with the 2008 Malegaon blast case, on Monday permitted an exemption application filed by her lawyer.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which was directed by the court to verify her health condition, told the court on Monday that she has been advised bed rest. The NIA report said that its officer visited Sarvottam Hospital in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The NIA officer informed the concerned doctor regarding the court’s order. The doctor in his medical certificate has said that he visited Thakur’s home on March 30 and verified her health condition. He also advised her to take rest.

On April 3, the court had said that the presence of Thakur who is an accused in the case, was necessary in order to record her statement and due to her absence, the court proceeding was hampered. It had then given directions to the NIA to verify her health condition and submit a report.
