Maharashtra: Nanded LS bypolls to be held on November 20

The bypolls in Nanded seat was necessitated following the demise of elected MP and senior Congress leader Vasant Chavan on August 26.

The Election Commission Tuesday announced that byelections to the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra will be held on November 20. The Assembly elections in Maharashtra will also be held on November 20 and the results will be declared on November 23.

The bypolls in Nanded seat was necessitated following the demise of elected MP and senior Congress leader Vasant Chavan on August 26.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, Vasant Chavan had defeated BJP’s sitting MP Prataprao Chikhlikar in Nanded. In the upcoming bypolls, the Congress is likely to field Vasant Chavan’s son Ravindra Chavan from the constituency. Whereas, BJP may retain its candidate Prataprao Chikhlikar.

Earlier, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, former chief minister Ashok Chavan who hails from Nanded quit Congress to join the BJP.
