The Maharashtra Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has launched a dedicated web portal for admission to diploma courses in engineering and technology, post Class 10. Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil launched the new portal – https://dte.maharashtra.gov.in – on Wednesday evening. The online registration process will begin Thursday, June 1.

Apart from traditional engineering groups such as civil, electrical, mechanical, computer etc, close to 2,500 additional seats have been approved for new-age courses introduced this year such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning; Mechatronics; Automation and Robotics; Cloud Computing and Big Data; Computer Engineering and IoT, among others.

“In the past four years, the number of vacancies in diploma courses has been constantly decreasing. In the academic year 2018-19, only 41 per cent of total seats in diploma courses were filled. However, it soon rose to 50 per cent in 2019-20, 60 per cent in 2020-21 and 70 per cent in 2021-22. Last year in 2022-23, admissions were confirmed for diploma courses in close to 85 per cent of total seats,” DTE Director Vinod Mohitkar said.

The DTE has launched a campaign titled ‘School Connect’, wherein school students are given information about diploma courses, and this has led to an increase in the number of students opting for diploma courses, Mohitkar added.

All students who have cleared Class 10 exams are eligible for admission to DTE’s diploma courses in engineering and technology. According to information shared by DTE, these courses are beneficial for employment as they are job and skill-oriented courses. Additionally, completing the diploma successfully makes students eligible for direct second-year admission to engineering degree courses.

Students awaiting the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or Class 10 results of the Maharashtra state board have time to apply as the registration process will continue until June 21. A provisional merit list will be out on June 23, allowing applicants to submit their grievances until June 27. A final merit list will be out on June 29.
