Maharashtra: Cousin held for murder of kin ‘who harassed family’

Mumbai police on Wednesday solved a murder case with the arrest of one Vijay, who allegedly killed his cousin, identified as Rajesh Sarwan (41). Vijay had allegedly put out a contract of Rs 3 lakh to have Sarwan murdered.

An officer said Sarwan’s body was found in a pool of water near the Kanjurmarg metro shed on Monday evening. The post mortem report indicated he had been hit on the head with a blunt object.

While Vijay was arrested by local Kanjurmarg police, two other accused in the case were tracked down by the crime branch and handed over to local police.

After enquiring, the police found that Rajesh, who was an alcoholic, had frequent fights with Vijay who resided next door to him. The police found out that Rajesh’s family members too were upset with the harassment they had to face due to his alcoholism.

On further probe, the police found that it was his cousin Vijay who had allegedly planned the murder Rajesh to put an end to the harassment meted out by Rajesh.

Vijay contacted two other accused persons identified as Rohit Chandiliya and Sagar Piwal, both resident of Vile Parle, who had prior crime records. The duo allegedly took Rajesh to an isolated spot near the Kanjumarg metro shed under the pretext of consuming alcohol, where they beat Sarwan on the head and fled.
