Maharashtra were far from convincing in their 9-2 victory over Goa in a Pool-B round-robin league match of the West Zone leg of the IHF conducted Senior National Hockey Championship,played at the MHA Stadium on Wednesday. The Maharashtra outfit,were better organized in every department and took complete control over the proceedings from the start and raced to a 6-0 half-time lead. Their only drawback was their lack of finishing and poor penalty corner conversion. They could only convert three of the 20 short corners they earned in the match. Ashutosh Lingesh struck a brace,while Rahul Deokar,Suhas Patil,Navneet Swarnakar,Imran Shaikh,Sameer Shaikh,Ashish Bhosale and Ankur Patel hit the target once each to seal their win. Goa captain Dattesh Priolkar,who had scored in their previous two games,once again got his name on the scoresheet,by netting both their goals. Later in the evening,Dadra & Nagar Haveli HA blanked Gujarat 7-0 after leading 4-0 at the end of the first session. Rajat Sharma slammed home three goals while Deepak Lakra added two and Pranav Mane and Roshan Mhatre got one each for the victors.
