An eight-year-old girl,allegedly kidnapped on Sunday night from outside her house by an unidentified person,was found on Monday morning with injury marks suggsting she may have been raped. The police have registered a case of kidnapping,and suspect that the girl was raped.
According to the police,the incident took place when the girl,a resident of Azad Nagar at Bainganwadi,stepped out at 10 pm on Sunday with her grandmother to fill water from a BMC tap in the area.
The girls grandfather said his wife had met an unknown youth of approximately 17-years-old,who began talking to her like an acquaintance and initiated a discussion.
My wife left her granddughter to keep a watch on one pot while she went home to keep another. However,when she went back she found our granddaughter and the stranger missing, said the girls grandfather.
When we could not find her after a brief search,at 11pm we registered a missing persons complaint at the Shivaji Nagar police station against the unknown youth for kidnapping her, he added.
Radheshyam Agarwal,senior police inspector of Shivaji Nagar police station,said,At 7am,the locals saw the girl at a lane near her house and immediately took the girl to the police station.
Meanwhile,angry locals had surrounded the police station after the girl was found.
Quaiser Khalid,Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region),said,We have registered a case of kidnapping and rape. However,at this stage,we only suspect that the girl was raped. The matter will be investigated.
The girl was sent to Nagpada police hospital for a medical checkup to confirm whether she was raped.
The girl is scared and has not been able to narrate anything that happened to her,or the place she was taken to by the stranger. We are preparing a sketch of the accused based on the descriptions given by the girls grandmother and witnesses, said Khalid.
