St Francis D’Assisi High School from Borivali produced a determined performance to script a narrow 1-0 win against a spirited St Stanislaus High School of Bandra to emerge worthy champions in the Goan Sports Association (GSA) organized 6th Inter-schools (boys’ under-12) football tournament.

In a hard-fought and well-contested final showdown, enterprising and roving striker Johnson Mathews, the spearhead of the D’Assisi attack, showed great anticipation as he charged in down the middle to latch on to a diagonal pass from the left. He then did well to keep the ball under control as he squeezed between two defenders before stabbing the ball to the roof of the net three minutes from the final whistle at the GSA ground,Cross Maidan. That was the moment that turned the match. Earlier,Campion HS from Cooperage Road romped to a comfortable 3-1 win against Matunga’s Don Bosco in the third-place playoff match. Arsh Thaker scored two goals while Abhishek Ashar added one more for Campion, and Karan Shukla’s strike only proved to be a consolation goal for the Matunga schoolboys.
