Jet pilots to decide on strike today

Over 600 pilots, owing allegiance to the National Aviators’ Guild, will hold an emergency meeting today to take a decision on the impending strike threatened by pilots.

Over 600 pilots, owing allegiance to the National Aviators’ Guild (NAG),will hold an emergency meeting today to take a decision on the impending strike threatened by pilots.

The pilots had issued a notice to Jet Airways about their decision to go on strike on August 23. The dispute between the pilots and the management began after two senior pilots were sacked for registering with the newly-formed trade union, pilots say.

“We will be holding an emergency meeting of pilots to decide our course of action,” said Girish Kaushik,President,NAG.

“Pilots have categorically said that they will go on strike if the issues are not resolved,” said a Jet official. Jet Airways, however, has maintained that the NAG is under legal obligation not to go on strike. A spokesperson said that reconciliatory talks with pilots will go on till September 14.
