The Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau on Thursday arrested a police inspector for allegedly accepting a bribe from an accused in two cases he was investigating. The ACB also arrested a businessman who allegedly acted as a middleman between the inspector and the complainant.
The complainant, a Bhandup resident, was booked in 2014 for building an illegal structure. When a BMC official visited his residence to take action against him, the complainant allegedly locked the official in his house for several hours, and a separate FIR of wrongful confinement was filed against him.

“Both cases were being investigated by PI Ashok Gajbhiye (57) with Kanjurmarg police station. After filing chargesheets in both cases, Gajbhiye sent a message to the complainant through a local transport businessman identified as Sushilkumar Dwivedi, demanding Rs 20,000 for ‘favouring’ him during the trial,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Vasant Devarkar, ACB.
The complainant approached ACB, which caught the inspector allegedly accepting the bribe.
Gajbhiye and Dwivedi have been booked under Prevention of Corruption Act.
