Narco supplier linked to D-Company shifted from Arthur Rd to Chennai prison to break his network
An NCB official said that they managed to get him transferred by pursuing his preventive detention under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Tuesday transferred Faisal Javed Shaikh — who was arrested by them in a narcotics case linked to Dawood Ibrahim gang in July 2023 — from the Mumbai-based Arthur Road prison to Puzhal Central prison in Chennai. Officials said that this was done to ensure that he did not have access to others in the network considering they were based in the same city.
An NCB official said that they managed to get him transferred by pursuing his preventive detention under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 1988.
“We got the detention order issued by a Joint Secretary, Government of India on March 26 following which he was moved to Puzhal Central prison in Chennai on Tuesday,” the official said. “He was quite upset and created a ruckus at the prison there,” a source said.
The official added that Shaikh had been arrested by the NCB in 2023 from Dongri in connection with a narcotics case. Later he was granted bail and arrested again in 2024 by the Mumbai police that charged him under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and he was lodged in Arthur Road prison.
The official however said it came to their attention that the accused was still in touch with his gang members and part of the narco network from prison. “Moving him to another city would keep him away from his network. Chennai prisons are known to be strict and hence we decided to move him there,” the official added.
“His repeated involvement in narcotics trafficking and criminal conspiracies, with clear linkages to organised crime syndicates, has necessitated his detention under the PIT-NDPS Act to disrupt his influence and operational network in Mumbai,” the official said.
“Intelligence inputs further suggest that Faisal Shaikh maintains international linkages, with connections to global drug trafficking networks, posing a serious threat to national security and public health,” the official added. The officer added that Shaikh has atleast 10 cases registered against him including three linked to narcotics and a rape case among others.
