The civic health department recorded 37 new cases of H1N1 infection across Mumbai on Saturday, taking the count of total number of patients to 1,600, including 33 deaths reported since January. Of the newly diagnosed cases, 12 are children.
Data provided by civic officials indicated that of the total burden of H1N1 infection, 30 per cent were paediatric cases, who were labeled at high-risk to the virus infection. While no death was reported on Saturday, six newly diagnosed patients required hospital admission.
Civic officials, however, said all six patients were stable and did not need ventilator support. On Wednesday, a 25-year-old pregnant woman from Pune, admitted to civic-run KEM hospital, delivered a baby despite H1N1 infection and dependence on ventilator. According to health experts, pregnant women were prone to complications following the H1N1 infection.
