In the wake of Baba Ramdevs arrest at the Ramlila ground in Delhi, the Mumbai wing of the India Against Corruption movement carried out a rally to mark the death of democracy,on Tuesday. Around 400 citizens, including members of Ramdevs organisation Bharat Swabhimaan, marched from Bandra Bandtsand to Bandra station on Tuesday evening against the arbitrary nature of governments actions.
The rally caused traffic jams on the busy SV Road. Manan Gandhi,a volunteer with the IAC,said the procession is aimed at creating awareness about the undemocratic way in which the government and police acted and arrested innocent people.
Democracy has died in this country. Large groups of onlookers joined us in the rally spontaneously, said Manan. Posters supporting Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev dotted the rally. Even as the BJP is carrying out its own anti-corruption protest along side Baba Ramdevs protests in Azad Maidan, the IAC group maintained that it is largely apolitical. The group will observe a fast in Azad Maidan on Wednesday.
