To facilitate better governance at the corporator level, the new set of laptops that will be handed out to the newly elected corporators will have a constituency fund management software. It will help them keep a tab of their annual corporator fund of Rs 60 lakh. While many doubt the computer literacy of corporators and hence the utility of this software, officials feel such a system will help more efficient utilisation of funds for local area development.
Aseem Gupta,Additional Municipal Commissioner in charge of the IT department of the BMC,said the inclusion of this software will be made a part of the tenders to be floated for purchasing 227 new laptops. The biggest advantage of this software is that it will be connected to the ward-level administration from where corporators can access financial details through SAP data. They will know the financial and physical status of the work undertaken in their constituency by using the corporator funds, he said.
At present, details of work sanctioned under corporator funds is available only at the ward office and to check on delays in the execution of work, corporators have to go to the ward office.
Work usually undertaken under the corporators fund is related to minor roads, drainage, laying small water pipelines, building toilet blocks in slums etc.
