Dolphins are not rare in the Arabian Sea, but there was some excitement in Mumbai after the carcass of a 10-foot-long marine mammal washed ashore on Tuesday.
However, there was some controversy after BMC workers allegedly dumped the rotting carcass in the Deonar landfill without alerting the officials concerned.
Mid-Day quoted chief conservator of forests, Thane K P Singh as saying that the remains should have been handed over to them as a post mortem is mandatory.
Dolphins are protected under Schedule 1 of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
